I thought i would do a post comparing expensive and cheap skincare products to see overall which i preferred. So i picked two products, one expensive and one inexpensive, from my collection for each category to see if price really does affect quality.
Cleansers:
The Garnier Deep Clean Foam Wash is visually appealing, as the bottle is very bright, and has a lot of product in. It also has a pump top which is always a bonus! However, i find this cleanser really dries my face out, and is one of those products that really strips your face and leaves it feeling gross. It smells quite nice and clean, but i hate the consistency as it is very thick and slimy.
Obviously if you have read my Elemis Melting Cleansing Gel review you will know it is my favourite cleanser to date. Have a read of it, if you haven't already! As an overview - it is amazing at removing makeup, smells amazing and works so well!
So Expensive wins this one!
Moisturisers:
When i bought the No7 day cream, i adored it, i had never had a cream like it! It is so hydrating and rich and works wonders for dry skin. It has a lovely scent, that isn't overpowering at all. I love the consistency of it, and find that it works well as a base for foundation especially if you suffer with dry patches.
The Nivea Refreshingly Soft Moisturising Cream is actually a very good dupe for the No7 cream. I love it just as much. The scent and consistency are good and i find it to be very hydrating. The crazy thing is it costs £9.50 less but you get 4x the amount of cream! (No7 50ml, Nivea 200ml)
Definitely Inexpensive wins this!
Toners:
It's difficult to compare toners, as i never quite see any results when using one anyway. However i'll start with Simple's toner - i find it to be good value for money as you get the same amount (200ml) as in the Elemis toner, for £2.99. It doesn't irritate my skin at all, and has a pleasant scent. It lasts a long time, and it has a small hole in the top so it doesn't waste product. I find it to be very soothing on the face, and is great for sensitive skin.
The Elemis toner has a pump, so obviously i like that. It can also be used as a 'calming facial spritzer' which i find awesome! I'm a sucker for a good novelty feature! I find the lid to be very secure, so there is never any leakage which is great as it is expensive, so you don't wanna be wasting it! I love the fact it is alcohol free and has no harsh detergents in, but then again the Simple toner is alcohol free too.
Therefore, although you can use the Elemis toner as a spritzer, i have to choose Simple's as it is great value for money and does work as well!
Inexpensive wins for toner!
The result is Expensive 1-2 Inexpensive!

thanks, yeah there are good drugstore brands! xx
DeleteI've always found that any "foaming" cleanser will dry my skin out whereas gels, balms and creamy cleansers are more suited for dry skin because they do have a softer result so that could be why the cheaper option wasn't a winner in that category!
ReplyDeleteAlso I've been wanting to try the no7 moisturiser so it's good to know there is a cheaper dupe version! Great post though! :-) xx

DeleteI tend to find that you really don't need to splash the cash to get good skincare products. There are so many affordable but great brands out there. I usually stick to inexpensive products as I find they work best for my sensitive skin. I do indulge if I find something expensive that works really well though :)
